Exploring the Catskills II

I wanted to go back to the area of the Catskills I explored Memorial Day weekend, to do some camping, and more exploring.

After spending Saturday night at one of the free campsites I found, I met up with Sabine at her house in Woodstock. I wanted to show her the places I'd found, and do some exploring of the area with her. It was rainy, and her bike konked out, due to some electrical issue that I couldn't diagnose. We made it close to Bearsville, which is the next town west of Woodstock, and ended up having her bike towed... after we had some dinner at the Bear Cafe, which was great.

I ended up staying in Woodstock that night, since it was raining and getting late. Sabine offered me her comfy yet modern sleeper-sofa, then whipped up a delicious spinach and feta omelet in the morning. After some coffee I was on my way.

Before setting up camp I rode off to find some beer. Gotta have beer! As I was returning, I spotted a place by the side of the road selling chopped campfire wood. I had to pick some up.

The "road" leading to the campsite.

The campsite.
It was foggy back there, since it was probably about 85 degrees and had been raining most of the day. The mosquitos were out in full force.

This little stream ran right beside the campsite. Very convenient for keeping the beer cold, and created a nice ambiance.

I was testing out the new one-person tent I picked up recently. Though it was a little tight inside, it set up very quickly, and packed very small.

Taken by Sabine on Sunday. This is at the beginning of the road into the camping area, near the sign in the first picture above. I had to put on my rain pants since it was pretty wet and muddy back there.

Sabine's bike getting towed.
I can't remember this guy's name, but he was quite a character. He was from Alabama, and was definitely a 'good old boy'. Tow truck divers everywhere love the Tasmanian Devil. Why? I don't know.
